Nurturing Curiosity, Guiding Discovery

The Portland Montessori School has a long-standing tradition of educating children for life. Founded in 1962 as Providence Montessori School, we were the first Montessori school in the Pacific Northwest. We offer primary and elementary programs at our Northeast Portland campus that build on a rich history of learning, friendship and community. Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) recognized, and guided by a gifted team of certified professionals, we are committed to helping children develop a lifelong love of learning and cultivating the skills essential to authentic living.

Now Accepting Applications for Board Members

The Board of Directors wishes to expand and diversify its membership. Several founding members are completing their term of service in June. The goal is to recruit five new members, filling out the Board to nine. All Board members must have a passionate belief in the School’s mission, values and programs, but it is in the best interest of the School that a majority of the Board’s members not be parents of currently enrolled students. We're honored to announce that we have received AMI Recognition. Our Primary program has received full recognition and our Elementary program will receive recognition in the fall. This is an affirmation of the important work our students do here and we're very grateful to all the staff and families for helping us achieve this.

"In her four years with the elementary program our daughter has blossomed into a bright, independent, self-assured child who LOVES to come to school every day. We are thankful for this strong, close-knit community, and can’t imagine her attending any other school for her elementary education."
