    Program Assistant

    On-Call

    Non-exempt

    Range $19-21 per hour

    Job Summary: The Program Assistant works to implement the Montessori approach at the school including the classroom, hallways, playground and studio environment; creating a warm, nurturing and safe environment for children in which individuality is respected and independence is encouraged. The Program Assistant provides patience and respect for children and will be a model for the children's appropriate manners and behaviors.

    Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

    1. Assists in the care and classroom management of the children as outlined by school policies and classroom teams.
    2. Assists in maintaining a clean, orderly and engaging physical environment.
    3. Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships with children, parents and co-workers.
    4. Refers any questions from parents regarding disciplinary issues or other classroom concerns to 1. The Guide 2. Sr. Director of Education 3. Head of school
    5. Supervises children during classroom time, recess, rest time, bathroom support, transitions and during aftercare activities.
    6. Leads small groups in activities as necessary.
    7. Actively participates in aftercare and summer camp activities.
    8. Report any unusual occurrences to the appropriate person.
    9. Constructively collaborates with colleagues in providing the children with a ‘prepared environment’.
    10. Keeps common areas such as the children’s bathrooms, laundry room and storage closets clear, clean and tidy.
    11. Reports to work, leaves and returns from breaks promptly, according to the daily schedule.
    12. Participates in all in-service training and meetings.
    13. Assists at school-related events as needed.
    14. Other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Education, Skills and Abilities

    • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational Skills.
    • The ability to guide children through redirection and affirmative words.
    • Must have experience with children in the age range of 15 months to 12 years.
    • Ability to treat children and others with respect, sensitivity, kindness and dignity in all situations.
    • The willingness to consistently model appropriate respectful courtesies.
    • Ability to take initiative and to fulfill assigned duties without constant direction.
    • Establishes and maintains cooperative working and supporting schedule changes.
    • Ability to work with integrity and make decisions independently.
    • Individuals should be able to exercise a high degree of collaboration and confidentiality.
    • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of individuals.

    Special Requirements

    1. Enrollment in ELD Central Background Registry is required.
    2. Must complete the required Safety Set through Early Learning Division Self-Study Trainings (within 30 days).
    3. Must complete First Aid, Hands on CPR (within 90 days), and Food Handlers Card
      (first 30 days). Safe Sleep (within 30 days)
    4. Must apply to the Oregon Professional Development Registry and register on the Oregon Registry Online within 30 days.
    5. Must follow State and School Rules pertaining to Annual Licensing. We require 15 hours of total training with 8 of those hours in child development in a calendar year.
